He's not one to shy away from controversy so it was only a matter of time before Ricky Gervais got involved.
After we revealed the last picture taken of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes as a couple, the comedian posted his own hilarious version on Twitter.
Mocking the fact that Katie is taller than Tom by a few inches, Gervais re-enacts the famous 'last picture' shot by holding hands with a giant lookalike of the actress.
Looking more like his risqué character Derek, than actor Cruise, the 51-year-old comedian posted on Twitter: 'This is the last time Katie Tom were seen together...'
They do say that the secret behind comedy is timing but it's unlikely that Tom will see the funny side.
The original photo was taken just two weeks before Katie filed for divorce.
The actress, wearing skinny white jeans, blue shirt and blue jumper, looks glum as she walks hand-in-hand with her ex-husband to be.
It shows Tom almost clinging on to his wife's hand which supports reports in the US that he was "blind-sided" by the decision.
He apparently had no idea his wife planned to travel to New York to file papers citing “irreconcilable Âdifferences†to end the marriage.
The decision to divorce there means that Katie has a better chance of gaining sole custody of Suri because New York doesn’t like giving warring couples joint custody.
Yesterday Tom was seen for the first time since news of the split broke around the world.
The Hollywood star, his eyes hiding behind aviator shades, jumped into a private helicopter from the set of his latest film Oblivion in Iceland.
He was later seen flying out of Reykjavik airport - his destination unknown.
The couple have spent months insisting their marriage was as strong as ever as rumours circulated showbiz that all was not well.
The 33-year-old actress has started divorce proceedings and is insisting on sole custody of their daughter Suri, six.
The shock move is said to have left Top Gun star Cruise, 49, devastated.

Devout Catholic Katie, who has always been deeply uncomfortable with her husband’s ÂScientology cult, released a statement through her attorney Jonathan Wolfe.
Making no mention of Cruise, it said: “This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family.
"Katie’s primary concern remains, as it always has been, her Âdaughter’s best interest.â€
The couple â€" said to be worth £175million â€" have been on separate sides of America for the past two months as rumours of a split grew.
When Cruise, who also has two adopted Âchildren with Nicole Kidman â€" Connor, 17, and 19-year-old Isabella â€" recently visited London to promote his new movie Rock of Ages, there was no sign of his wife.
There was no mention of a prenup in the divorce papers filed in New York on Thursday that cited “irreconcilable differences†for the split.
But US website TMZ claimed the pair did sign one, effectively protecting any wealth Cruise made before he met Katie, who was spotted still wearing her wedding ring this week.
She wants “primary Âresidential custody†of Suri, as well as a “suitable amount†of child support, believed to be millions a year.
Katie allegedly asks in the papers â€" said to have been filed anonymously â€" for a division of their property including a £20million Hollywood home.
US media has recently been awash with talk about the couple’s relationship.
In Touch magazine revealed how Katie had been left “depressed†and had grown resentful of marriage.
US blog The Daily claimed they “were living separate livesâ€.
It is thought she was growing increasingly Âfrustrated that Cruise’s career went from strength to strength, while hers had Âeffectively ground to a halt.
At the end of last year, he was in Pennsylvania working on One Shot, and last summer he was in Miami shooting Rock of Ages.
Katie, meanwhile, was looking after Suri in New York.
She’s only just signed up for a new film while her last project was box office flop Jack and Jill.
A source told In Touch: “Katie doesn’t have much to smile about these days as her husband reignites her career.
"Katie thought being married to a huge star like Tom would open doors for her. This isn’t the life she signed up for.â€
But as the whispers grew, his team constantly denied there was any problems in the marriage, insisting the couple were happier than ever.
Last September Katie also suggested the marriage was strong.
She said: “Our relationship is great.â€
Last December, Cruise gushed: “Every day I fall more in love with her. It’s been quite an amazing five years because of her. She’s an incredible woman. She’s everything to me.â€
The couple married in a lavish ceremony at an Italian castle in November 2006.
It came just a year after Cruise’s toe-curling appearance on the Oprah Winfrey show in which he jumped up and down on the sofa, shouting: “I’m in love, I’m in love.â€
In June 2010, he described how he fell for Katie, declaring: “I knew that I wanted to marry her after the first day I met her.
"What’s even more interesting is that Katie confessed that when she was a teenager she had dreamt of marrying me. Doesn’t that just seem Âi ncredible?â€
Just two weeks ago, Cruise announced he would not be having any more children.
He added: “I’m so happy with three. I’m enjoying every second with Suri that I have. And I’m enjoying the relationship with my older kids, and the way it is right now.â€
Friends say that while Katie “went along with†Scientology, she was never completely convinced by it and remained true to her Catholic faith.
Three years after their wedding the cracks started to show when Katie won a battle with her husband to enrol Suri in a Catholic pre-school in Boston, ÂMassachusetts â€" a move that was said to have annoyed him.
The actor, who was with first wife Mimi Rogers from 1987 to 1990, has been spotted in Iceland this week where he’s been shooting Oblivion, while Katie and Suri have been seen in NYC.
